After years of restless calm, I heard about the Gravity Blanket. It’s a weighted blanket that, according to the manufacturer, offers “deep touch pressure stimulation” to boost your mood and promote restful sleep. The science behind these blankets isn’t conclusive, but to put it simply, because you’re all snug in them, you kick and slide around less and, in theory, sleep much better. The blankets come in different weights to accommodate different sized sleepers and personal preferences.
Now, I’m not a scientist. I barely passed botany in college. So I don’t know why, but the Gravity Blanket works! When I get under it, it feels like the best kind of warm, all-encompassing hug. I chose the lightest version because I often get hot at night; it’s really good for me. Not too hot, not too cold and weighed the ideal amount. Unlike your average thin blanket, it doesn’t shift or roll or roll on the floor. It stays put – heavy and velvety – and gives a feeling of deep calm, so you can just exhale. I can only compare it to the peace that would descend on my newborn baby if I swaddled him.
I slept through the night under my new velvety bed companion for two weeks.
