The White House condemned Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) for his “incredibly ugly and inappropriate” comments suggesting that President Joe Biden’s late son, Beau Biden, should have been charged while he was alive.
On Monday’s episode of the right-wing podcast “The Great America Show with Lou Dobbs,” Comer said criticized U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who currently oversees the federal investigation into Hunter Bidenfor not indicting Beau Biden during an investigation into illegal contributions to his father’s campaign more than a decade ago.
In 2012, Weiss continued Christopher Tigani, a Biden donor who “illegally contributed $72,700 to [Biden’s presidential] campaign in 2007,” ed paid back his employees for donations made in their name.
Beau Biden, who was then the Attorney General of Delaware, withdrew from the investigation, and according to The Washington Postno credible evidence was found that the Bidens had prior knowledge of Tigani’s campaign fraud.
But Comer claimed on the podcast that Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer was involved in 2015 at the age of 46.
“This American attorney … had a chance years ago to go after the Bidens. In fact, it was Beau Biden, the president’s other son, who was involved in some campaign donations from a person who was also indicted,” Comer, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, said on the podcast, the Post reported.
He continued: “But you know, nothing ever happened. So I don’t know much about this American lawyer [Weiss] except he’s had the chance to investigate the Bidens before and he chose not to. We all know he’s just been quiet for a long time.”
When asked about the comments made at Wednesday’s press conference, the White House press secretary said Karine Jean Pierre said,“It says a lot about the chairman, which is not good by the way.”
“It’s incredibly ugly and inappropriate to make the statement he made,” she added.
“Instead of the House Republicans focusing on attacking the president and his family, why don’t they really focus on what the American people have put them in office, which is delivering something for them, which is actually working with their colleagues … have actually proposed legislation or policies that will make a difference in their lives,’ continued Jean-Pierre.
Joe Biden has repeatedly raised Beau throughout his presidency. Most recently, Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) harassed Biden during his State of the Union address last year after mentioning his son’s death while referring to veterans’ health.
